Meet the crafter

Krys has been crafting since childhood.

Beginning at age nine, I (Krys Nelson) learned the basics of fiber arts from my mother. Starting with knitting, crochet, and embroidery (which she also taught some of her nieces). My creativity has not only been encouraged by my craft savvy mother, it’s been equally nurtured by my artistic father. (And dutifully inspected by our 8 lb yorkie Zelda, aka Princess Zelda.)

Dabbling in crafting during my teens, my interest became serious at age nineteen when I joined a knit and crochet group in college. Since then, I’ve steadily learned more advanced techniques. Slowly adding other crafts to my repertoire - cross stitch, yarn dyeing, bead weaving, jewellery making, needle tatting (I cannot for the life of me wrap my mind around shuttle tatting, I’ve tried!), felt crafts - and dabbling in various others over the years - metal stamping, yarn spinning, painting, sketching, photography, and others which have been much more short lived than I’d like to admit.

2014. After years of attending the biggest craft fair of the year in my hometown (the Kaien Island Craft Fair) as a customer, I finally took the plunge and became a vendor for the very first time. I shared a table with one of my aunts and the rest is history. I’ve been enjoying doing winter craft fairs ever since (with the sole exception of the plague years). In 2024, my aunts even organized one of our own for the very first time. (it was awesome.)

Apparel

It all started with hats. Mostly crocheted hats. I eventually tried hand at designing and began creating patterns. I added scarves, mittens, and cowls over the years.

Kitchen Items

Beginning, as many do, with dishcloths, I eventually moved on to pot holders. Both of which I eventually created my own designs for, as well as pot scurbs, bowl cozies, and towel toppers

Accessories

Fingerless mitts, mittens, scarves, cowls, ear warmers, as well as a wide variety of bags. (A very wide variety of bags. I love bags almost as much as I do hats… and earrings… and socks…)

Home Decor

Most of the home decor I’ve done is blankets. I have a habit of making at least one scraphghan a year. I love mixing knitting and crochet for blankets. I have also dabbled in making amigurumi, and a few wall hangings.

Crafting Accessories

Probably linked to my addiction love of jewellery, I love making stitch markers for both knitting and crochet. Any excuse to turn something into a stitch marker, I’ll take it. I’ve also made a number of pincushions.

Jewellery

Necklaces. Earrings. Bracelets. I. Love. It. All. As a personal hobby, I made so many necklaces for myself in college. These days, I have… I haven’t actually counted my earrings. And now I make them to sell. Not sure why it took me so long to be honest.
